Lake Tashmoo is a secluded salt water lake that is now opened to the ocean water. Once a fresh water lake, local boaters and fisherman labored to make a navigable cut to Vineyard Sound many decades ago. The water is cleaner and warmer than many of the other local harbors due to its protected watershed and lack of industry. It is a popular place to swim from a boat.
The entrance to the Lake is limited in its depth at low tide. Therefore special planning needs to take place to coordinate a charter that will begin and end in the Lake. However one way charters that only being or end in the lake are easier to plan. If you charter does allow you to begin and end in the lake, consider yourself lucky to have been able to time your special day with the natural flows of the local tides.
Our pick up and drop off spot is at the Lake Street Landing (Closest address is 350 Lake Street, Tisbury MA). The landing is a Town of Tisbury owned public pier that can be reached by driving to the very end of Lake Street in Tisbury. The Landing is a 20 minute walk from Main Street, a 5 minute drive from the center of Vineyard Haven and a 15 minute drive from Oak Bluffs and a 20 minute drive from Edgartown. What you spend in travel time and fares will certainly be made up by the immediate immersion into the quiet bucolic setting that makes Martha’s Vineyard famous.
Once you arrive at the Lake Street Landing we would encourage you to drop off your passengers and your belongings at the bottom of the hill at the foot of the pier. Then you can park anywhere on the hill leading upto the tennis courts or you may park at the spaces on the road facing the tennis courts or any spaces that are marked for public car parking at the tennis court parking lot. There are a few signs reserving some spots for handicap, commercial fisherman, and tennis players but aside from those, we would encoruage you to pick to closest spot to the bottom of the hill.
The town does provide port-a-potties at the tennis courts and at the dock sometimes, but do not rely on them always being there. Our vessel has a full bathroom that you may use once you board or before you disembark when we return to land.
